We'll explain our current adoption policies on this page.

Adoption Policies

All dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, IDEXX tested for Heartworm, Lyme disease and Ehrlichia. They are placed on a heartworm preventive when taken into our foster care program. Cats are rabies vaccinated, dewormed and spayed or neutered.  All animals up for adoption must be applied for by filling out a HHS adoption application.

Adoption Fee

Our standard Dog/Puppy adoption fee is $150.00. However the price can vary depending on the breed of the animal. The adoption fee covers the vetting we have in the animal and allows us to help another one in need.  We do not adopt out animals that are not altered. Our Feline adoption fee is $65.00.

Return of Adopted Animals

Sometimes, very rarely, there is a reason for the newly adopted parent to have to return an animal.  We temperament test these dogs and they are in family type foster homes where they get attention and love the same as they would in a family, unlike dogs living in shelters.  But sometimes there are situations that arise and the dog can't remain in their new home. In the adoption application contract it is specifically written that Hickman Humane Society is to receive the dog back in case the adopters can't keep the dog and the adoption fee is nonrefundable.
