Success Stories

Hickman Humane Society, Inc.
is a 501 (c) (3) founded in 1996 by a small group of volunteers who serve to provide animal welfare in Hickman County Tennessee. We are a shelterless society existing in a rural county which has no animal control, no shelter and no local ordinances to control the vast numbers of roaming strays & animal drop off problem. We exist with virtually no community support and actually no support from the county government. Our funding is entirely dependent upon donations.
Our Organization's Philosophy
The objective of our organization is to provide a rescue for stray, surrendered, neglected, abandoned, and abused animals in Hickman County.  As a strictly volunteer organization, we investigate cruelty cases, and abandoned animal cases.  We have a retired vet, Dr. Nell Ahl, who helps us take care of the animals we rescue, which are most times in very poor condition.  We also provide education in the schools, from volunteers, who go to teach children the importance of caring for their animals.  Our group has a very successful low cost spay/neuter program which has been available to county residents since 2001. Thanks to this program and the participating veterinarians who generously support it many county pet owners have been provided with assistance in having their pets spayed and neutered.

Our Organization

At this time, we have a small group of foster care homes which is our only method of providing care for the small numbers of animals we are able to take in. Animals are adopted through websites such as Petfinders, Adopt a Pet, and Rescue Me. Also with the partnering of Critter Cavalry and Great Dogs -  northeastern rescue organizations and by Pet of the Month ads in the local Hickman County Times newspaper, and Pet Patrol announcements on our local radio station, KIX 96. We also hold local adoptathons and most Saturday's we can be found at PetCo in Brentwood, Tn or at Tractor Supply Company in Fairview,Tn.

Since we rely solely on donations to take care of Hickman County's strays, please find it in your heart to donate.
